Resolution Regarding Prohibition of New Bulkheads on Taunton Lake
WHEREAS, the Association’s governing documents prohibit construction or alteration
upon the lake bed without prior approval from the Association; and
WHEREAS, environmentally sustainable shoreline management practices, including the
use of coir logs, native plantings, and other natural stabilization methods, provide
effective alternatives to traditional bulkheads for erosion control; and
WHEREAS, 70% of terrestrial wildlife and 90% of aquatic life depend on shorelines during
some stage of their life.
WHEREAS, the installation of new bulkheads may contribute to adverse environmental
impacts, including but not limited to loss of aquatic and shoreline habitat, reduction in
biodiversity, degradation of water quality, destruction of native shoreline vegetation, and
increased erosion impacts on neighboring properties;
WHEREAS, The Association actively fosters a natural setting and aesthetic that would
be preserved and enhanced by softer, vegetated shorelines.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Association shall not approve or permit
the installation of any new bulkheads along Association lakeshores in areas where
bulkheads do not presently exist.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all shoreline stabilization measures shall remain
subject to review by the OTCC prior to commencing installation.
This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption by the Board of Trustees.
