Turtles of Taunton Lake
"I looked out of our living room window and saw the turtle and our
tenant's cat, Oreo, just sitting watching this big turtle. I called my
husband to come and bring the camera. We took pictures of it and
Bob had our granddaughter, Megan, stand near to help get the
concept of how big the turtle was. When showing the pictures to
our tenant, Jim Furlong, who verified the fact that it was a snapper.
The mounds of dirt was where she laid her eggs. Jim, being an
out-doors-man, said that turtles always go up on land to lay their
eggs, away from any predators. After a while the eggs hatch and
baby turtles dig their way out of the sand and head for the water!
After getting the pictures, we watched the mama turtle go down the
hill and dive into the water.
