OLD TAUNTON COLONY CLUB

Beach Tag and Water Craft Registration Rule

Purpose:

Use of Taunton Lake is for the exclusive benefit of the members of Old Taunton Colony Club.

Despite the clear and numerous “private property” signage, the public exposure of our parking and beach area at Taunton Lake continues to attract non-members to the beach and lake. Use by non-members leads to increased trash and unauthorized boating and fishing, which stretches our limited resources, potentially increases our legal liability, leads to unsafe conditions, and lowers the quality of life for our residents.

This rule shall assist the General Membership of Taunton Lake, the Board of Trustees, and Medford Township Police Department to discern the lawful use of Taunton Lake from the illegal trespass by non-members and the general public. Unfortunately, many times we find that it is our own members who have not attached current boat stickers or displayed current beach tags. In other instances we have found that members have given boat stickers and/or beach tags to non-members. This practice is not permitted and makes the job of monitoring the lake for unauthorized use extremely difficult.

It is for these reasons the following rule is now being adopted.

Rule:

No watercraft shall be launched onto Taunton Lake or stored on Common Property or on public rights of way unless it has affixed to it a current numbered registration sticker, commonly referred to as a “Boat Sticker,” issued by the Old Taunton Colony Club. Boat stickers are not to be distributed to anyone not residing in Taunton Lake and are for exclusive use on watercraft owned by members and stored year round on properties within Taunton Lake.

Boat stickers are issued in numbered pairs. One sticker of the pair shall be prominently displayed on each side of the watercraft for easy visibility. The numbering of boat stickers helps to identify lost watercraft and to assign responsibility for persons who may be violating or assisting in violating this rule.

Beach tags must be worn at all times by all persons, including guests, at the beach, on the lake or on other common areas. Members should accompany all guests and will be held liable for the actions of their guests.

Boat stickers and beach tags will be issued starting at the Annual Meeting in May of each year only to those members whose annual dues are paid in full. Boat stickers and beach tags are numbered and will be assigned to the households of each specific member property. The type, model, color or other description of each watercraft must be provided prior to issuance of boat stickers. Numbered stickers shall be assigned to each described watercraft and shall not be transferable. Quantities of watercraft and beach tags may be regulated at the discretion of the Board of Trustees or their designatee.

Enforcement:

Please wear your beach tags and display your boat stickers when using the lake, beach or other common areas. Please realize that you may be asked by any member or beach tag checker to show your beach tag or boat sticker. Please be polite to those making the request; this is done to protect you, your children, private property and property values, as well as our common interest and property.

We encourage all residents to monitor the use of our common facilities and ask to see either boat stickers or beach tags when not visible. Anyone not complying with the request or promptly leaving our facilities upon request shall be considered a trespasser and should be immediately reported to any member of the Board of Trustees and/or the Medford Township Police using the Central Dispatch number (609) 267 8300, unless the situation dictates otherwise.

Those members who are found to not display current boat stickers, beach tags or distribute the same to non-members shall receive written notice and fined in the amount of $50.00 per occurrence.

Adopted by the Board of Trustees on December 13, 2017
